We're raising awareness about special educational needs within Bradford's diverse communities.

About

SEND Salaam started as a passion project in April 2024. Founder Mahum, a parent carer, saw a gap in support services for hidden disabilities in her local Bradford community- especially within the South Asian community.

Through caring for her son, she experienced first-hand the barriers families face: long NHS waiting lists, constantly having to advocate for her son's needs, and the fight to secure an Education, Health and Care Plan. She also saw the wider barriers stopping families from getting help early- language, cultural stigma around mental health, low digital literacy, single-parent households, and dads navigating the SEND system as primary carers.

Our first Chai and Chat was held in April 2024. Since then, we've partnered with community centres, schools, faith spaces and local organisations to bring inclusive art and information sessions to SEND families across the city.
