Past Projects
SEND Chai and Chat
These are our community information sessions, which are designed to be inclusive for families in Bradford.
They take place monthly and each session focuses on a different area of SEND e.g. speech and language development, emotionally based school avoidance, sensory processing, children’s mental health, parent carer mental health, navigating social care system and more.
Art Therapy Groups: Zimmedari Aur Zindagi, A Caring Journey
We piloted a first of its kind art therapy project for parent carers in Bradford last year!
We brought 13 women from ethnically diverse backgrounds to take part in creative wellbeing activities, led by a qualified Art Therapist and Psychotherapist, Thahmina Begum (BAAT, HCPC) for 5 weeks.
The project was created by us through conversations we’d been having with parents over the past year around ways to support their mental health.
We were proud to be funded by Bradford City of Culture 2025 and Mind to deliver this project in Little Horton and we’re now hoping to offer this as a regular service as part of SEND Salaam, subject to funding!
Speech and language therapy groups
We've also partnered up with Nicki & Caroline from Seedlings CIC to bring free speech and language therapy groups to pre-school children from disadvantaged areas in Bradford by providing peer support in English, Urdu and Punjabi for for families.
The groups include expert advice from qualified speech therapists, with over 25 years of experience working in the NHS. We're passionate about early intervention and ensuring families get the right support at the start of their journey.
Art Therapy Groups
After our highly successful pilot with parent carers, we wanted to focus on young people’s mental health.
Our project was based on a result of Bradford’s Parents’ Forum annual SEND survey which highlighted the lack of mental health services and pathways for support for young people with SEND.
We collaborated with the The Born in Bradford Youth Resilience Program, which is a place-based program that aims to create a positive environment in which young people can grow up.
We had a small group of 4 young people and held 10 creative and reflective sessions with Thahmina (Art Therapist) to support their emotional and mental wellbeing through using various mediums of art.
The project showed that community based mental health initiatives help reduce barriers and create safe spaces for people to come together to improve their wellbeing.
Sensory art workshops
We’re proud to have worked with various community centres and faith spaces to deliver art workshops for children with additional needs.
We know how art can be a powerful tool in supporting emotional wellbeing and as a form of expression. This is why we ran a series of workshops over the past two years to bring new opportunities for local families in central Bradford, who would find it difficult to access and engage with traditional art workshops.
We’ve worked with local artists with experience of working with children with SEND and have had families who’ve never taken their child to an art workshop tell us how much their child has enjoyed the experience.
